Inspiring rangatahi to stand up, speak out and create change.

We empower youth to lead change

Our world is at a critical turning point, facing escalating challenges such as climate change, mental health crises, inequality, and poverty. What does the future hold for us? Here in Aotearoa, young people are at the forefront of driving change—a generation filled with hope and determination.

Save the Children New Zealand’s youth programme, Generation Hope NZ, offers rangatahi like you the chance to speak up, have your voices heard by decision-makers, and feel empowered to lead the way toward a brighter future.

Meet Our 2025 Generation Hope Ambassadors

At Save the Children New Zealand, we believe in the power of young people to lead change. Each year, we welcome a new cohort of inspiring rangatahi into our Generation Hope Youth Rōpū — a collective of passionate youth advocates ready to stand up, speak out, and take action on the issues that matter most.

Our 2025 Ambassadors come from across Aotearoa, bringing their lived experiences, cultural strengths, and bold ideas to create a better future for all children.

What is Generation Hope?

Generation Hope is Save the Children NZ’s youth leadership programme for rangatahi aged 14–18. Ambassadors contribute to five key areas of our work: advocacy, fundraising, events, media & content, and education.

They speak truth to power, co-create campaigns, and bring bold ideas to life — all while being mentored and supported along the way.

COP Simulation September 2024

Around 20 rangatahi aged 12 to 18 recently joined a simulation of COP29, the UN’s international climate meeting, in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Hosted by Save the Children New Zealand, along with partners like the Education Partnership and Innovation Trust (EPIT), Youth Climate Collective, Gen Z Aotearoa, and Create Happy Media, the event aimed to amplify youth voices in the climate conversation.

The insights and experiences shared by these young participants will form a statement of asks to be presented to the New Zealand delegation heading to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024. This statement will also contribute to a Global Child and Youth Statement being collated by Save the Children International.

COP Simulation September 2025

In July, over 100 young leaders from across Aotearoa gathered for Youth COP 2025, a landmark event co-hosted by Save the Children NZ and Youth Climate Collective. With panels, workshops and real-world policy kōrero, rangatahi shaped bold climate solutions across governance, food systems, WASH, and loss & damage. Their insights will now power the Youth Climate Statement, a youth-led call to action being delivered directly to government this October.

This is not the end. It’s the beginning of youth stepping up, being heard, and holding decision-makers to account.
