Take action: advocate for a better future

Read about our current advocacy campaigns and join the movement to uphold children’s rights and well-being in Aotearoa and beyond.

At Save the Children New Zealand, we believe in the power of advocacy to create meaningful change for children. Through our campaigns, we address critical issues impacting children and young people, advocating for policies that protect their rights and empower them to thrive.

From addressing systemic injustices to amplifying youth voices, our campaigns tackle the root causes of inequality, poverty, and violence against children. Together, we can create a safe, just, and equitable future for all tamariki and rangatahi.

Below, you’ll find our active campaigns. Each initiative represents an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children. Explore our work, learn more, and find out how you can get involved to support positive change.

Boot the bill

Save the Children strongly opposes the Oranga Tamariki (Responding to Serious Youth Offending) Amendment Bill. This proposed legislation threatens to fast-track children into the criminal system, introduce harmful military-style boot camps, and permit the use of physical force against children.

Evidence shows that punitive approaches like these fail to address the root causes of youth offending and risk causing further harm to already vulnerable children. Instead, we need policies that support positive change and ensure a brighter future for our youth.

Join us in saying no to outdated, ineffective measures and yes to a youth justice system that truly protects and uplifts children in Aotearoa.
